US and Jordan Sign Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, Committing Jordan to Faster Market Access and Acceptance of US Certificates

On 21 July 2026, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah signed the United States–Jordan Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. (USTR) Under the agreement, Jordan will continue to provide duty-free market access for almost all US goods, remove non-tariff barriers, and expand access for US products including agricultural goods and motor vehicles. (The White House) According to USDA, Jordan commits to completing the market-access process and allowing US imports within 18 months of a request, and to accepting certificates issued by US regulatory authorities. (USDA) Jordan also committed to prohibit imports of goods produced with forced labor, improve customs procedures and strengthen intellectual property protection. The agreement builds on the US–Jordan Free Trade Agreement, in force since 17 December 2001. (The White House)

Tariffs were not the main obstacle for US food entering Jordan; approvals and documentation were. A defined 18-month window for market-access decisions, together with acceptance of US regulatory certificates, addresses the paperwork side of food export, which is where shipments tend to stall. The practical effect will depend on how these commitments are implemented at the border.
